Wonderware

Wonderware is a major player in the SCADA world. We find that it is a very well rounded package that suits many needs, however it is not specifically affiliated with a particular PLC platform. Although this sometimes hinders their market presence, the fact that they have designed their product to work well with all major PLC vendors means that they have a unique design perspective and system philosophy that seems to work well in most applications.

Wonderware is a leading supplier of industrial automation and information software, legendary for its ease of use and for providing exceptional integration benefits. Because Wonderware® software transforms data into vital plant information, Wonderware powers intelligent plant decisions in real time. Wonderware has approximately 325,000 software licenses in approximately 100,000 plants worldwide, which is about 30 percent of the world's 335,000 plants with 20 or more employees.

RSView Supervisory Edition

Rockwell Automation shows up here in the SCADA classification with their Supervisory Edition of RSView. It is intended to take the customer into the SCADA realm at the point where the Machine Edition leaves off. As with the Machine Edition, we have worked significantly with this product, and are familiar with its pros and cons. Since Rockwell Automation owns Allen-Bradley, there is sometimes a bias towards using this software with AB PLCs.

RSView® Supervisory Edition is one of two components of the RSView Enterprise Series. The RSView Enterprise Series bridges the gap between machine-level and supervisory-level systems to give users a more efficient, productive, and cost-efficient solution at all levels of the enterprise. Designed for scalability and integration between machine and supervisory levels, Enterprise Series products are designed with a common look, feel, and navigation to speed development and training time while reducing your total cost of ownership. RSView Supervisory Edition (SE) is an HMI for supervisory-level monitoring and control applications. It has a distributed and scalable architecture that supports distributed-server/multi-user applications, giving maximum control over information everywhere you want it. This highly-scalable architecture can be applied to a stand-alone one-server/one-user application or to multiple users interfacing with multiple servers. RSView Supervisory Edition is targeted at supervisory-level monitoring and control applications that need a distributed and scalable architecture. Supervisory Edition includes runtime servers and clients, allowing customers to develop and deploy a multi-server/multi-client application. Such applications are developed with the RSView® Studio development tool.

iFix

iFix is a product that is part of the GE Fanuc Proficy HMI/SCADA product line and therefore might be considered directly affiliated with their line of PLCs and controllers. However, this software package, like all the others, may be used with just about any controller hardware. iFix definitely has its advantages over other packages in certain aspects, but at the same time is not always the best solution for a customer's needs.

iFIX offers scan based operation, ideally suited to applications requiring consistent performance and known response times. Process automation, in particular regulated industries, must be able to depend on the quality of their data, along with operator audit trails in order to maintain a tight control over their operation. Proficy HMI/SCADA - iFIX delivers this powerful process visualization, data acquisition and supervisory control. Based on Client/Sever distributed and open architecture, it easily and quickly integrates with your existing operation and offers a broad range of additional features.
